Toshiba loosing on flash memory – what about HD-DVD?
>from Tweakers.net
Big announcement; Toshiba is making a big loss (first quarter 2008) because of the drop of prices of flash memory.
And why is this news for Sjeltur…??
Because I am wondering how they deal with their information release…..
And how they get to those numbers….
107 million dollars as loss
Because of the drop of prices of the chips
And the was this following item not a big thing on the loss??
The rumour (Reuters.com) that Toshiba is going to make a loss of 986 million dollar because of the HD-DVD debacle…. (as you can read in the article – in March it was already known that the flash memory department COULD give a loss…..
Maybe more convenient for Toshiba to forget about this – as this HD-DVD is probably more bad publicity than the fact that Toshiba is making loss on the same field as a Samsung etc.
Marketing-Publicity…??
Or am I overlooking something..??
Looks like they were able to compensate that loss: “On a bright side, digital products moved into the black on solid performances in TV and hard disk drives, offsetting the impact of the withdrawal from its HD DVD business, Toshiba said.” (http://www.miamiherald.com/business/AP/story/621553.html)
Hahaha – it is a way to put it….
I think it is a chapter they want to close as fast as possible…..
Maybe they make the actual loss on HD-DVD public no earlier than the end of the year, hoping enough time has passed so everybody forgot about it…
Nice blog, i have added it to my favourites, greetings
