Sony and Microsoft to blame…??
On Next Gen (homepage Interactive Entertainment Today); is an article in which Mitch Lasky, former VP of EA Mobile and current general partner at VC firm Benchmark Capital, blames both Sony and Microsoft for the fact there is less innovation in gaming world. 30 Million dollar investments in games – for which we have to blame S & M. I would have liked a little bit more how he gets to those numbers…?? Is that license money – is it the software they need…?? Or are the 30 million spent by the big companies – cause that is what big companies do in this business..??
I see the gaming business just like the music business; some have an idea (the band / the developers) – you need someone to find you (a manager / a developmentcompany) – you go to the record-company / gaming-company; and they will OR will not invest in you.
They do..?? Go to the studio / play on ya computer; and make it work. Release it….. = and that is where the problem probably is; the big ones have the money (see Sony Music – EMI) and can do all the promotion etc etc.
Is this the problem in gaming industy…??
Are they spending all their money in the studios…or on promotion ??? Are Sony and Microsoft to blame for that…??
Or are they only able to rent the studio from S & M? Then yes – S & M are to blame…. = but it is not really clear to me….
And then – was has this to do with innovation…? Are you only allowed to rent the studio for a couple of days…??
Someone who can put a light on that one..??
