That is also a very logical thing....
A new artist is not something the gaming industry ,like guitar hero/rockband, can be interested in.... as bands first have to "prove themselves"... Who wants to play a rock show of an unknown band...?? And the risk for the designers to do this..... But after one or two "hits" you will already see songs of them; Bloc Party etc.
But with a racing games etc... you will find a LOT of new artist.

On the other hand; being available in other countries can make it for local bands very interesting. Like an Anouk(NL) - Kent(S) will be available in other countries. I even played GH with someone - who got really excited because I picked a song of Heroes Del Silencio (he never heard of....)New possibilities for them....

I still have the feeling it's only "saving" the dinosaurs (like Metallica!), in all the stories I read about this the common thread is the renewed interest in older artists, not so much new talent. Two examples: http://tech.msn.com/products/article.aspx?cp-documentid=8640365&GT1=40000
and the Wikipedia article about Guitar Hero: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero#Cultural_impact
note the bandnames mentioned in that article, they are almost without exception old or really old...
