Refusing a Gay job…. discrimination?

Homo Some of my post already made clear that I am not a Christian neither a Muslim neither ** fill in any kind of religion **…..
Calling myself an atheist..?? Mmmmmh maybe…..

I am also very clear about people being gay; it is not a choice – it is who you are…! Same as me; a human trying to live his life…..

And I am also very clear about “freedom of speech”  etc…. – we should be able to say what is on our mind….. I DO believe we should not discriminate or being mean to people….. But there is a thin line between “freedom of speech”  and “discrimination” and “hatred”…. but the freedom of speech (I think) is more important than “someone his feeling are hurt because of what another person did say”…..

Interesting case; the gay community of a city in Holland are organizing a “gay sports event”…. (little remark; open for gay AND hetero sexual people). They asked a company to make towels for this event……. This company did refuse this job and even asked the Gay Organization to not have this event – as they do believe “God did not make humans to have sex with the same sex”….
Following this; the Gay Organization is going to court – because of discrimination….

Well well – interesting uh…??

Sjeltur’s opinion…??
Well – I do believe it is strange that a company has such believes…. – I do think this is even one of the most disgusting “rules” within the Christian and any other Church.
BUT on the other hand; it is thought – a believe – an opinion….
And people are free in choosing with whom they are doing business and with whom not….

Judge Sjeltur would say; Sorry Gay Organization – this company is free in their decissions…. and YOU (as Gay) should also respect that AND in this matter – the Gay Organization would have to pay a fine = because of “using unnecessary time of Judge Sjeltur!”.

And what would be your decision…??

  1. Well funny how cruel people can be about other people who they think are “lower” than them. But as some may be cruel others are too sensitive too. But that is Life and I think if there is no conflict this would be a boring world…

  2. In some way it is funny….. and yep – you are right; without all the fuzz – life would be boring….
But I would like it a bit more if people would be able to accept each other…. and I would find my excitement in other stuff… ;)

  3. I don’t support the company’s decision at all… But even if something is not right, that doesn’t necessarily make it illegal. I don’t know what the laws are there, but here (in the US) I think that a company has a right to refuse service to people… for instance, if the towel printing company didn’t want to print something that was obscene. If the towel printing company believes that whatever they wanted on their towels was ‘obscene’, in their opinion, then I guess that’s their right. It just means that the printing company loses business! The organization can go somewhere else, support someone who supports gay rights rather than a discriminatory company.

So they probably shouldn’t be sued. It depends on what the laws are in the Netherlands. But this is a case of voting with your dollar, so they can just go to another printing company that stands with them, rather than a company that is against them.
