Freedom of speech; equals hatred/discrimination?

GeertWildersExtemist This is a real hard one…. We have now a huge discussion in Holland about a guy called “Geert Wilders”…. In the past year he said some controversial things – which could be a bit “shocking” to some people….
He is also the guy who made the movie “Fitna”….. some people would call him a racist…
But okay – the things he said – he did put it under the chapter of “freedom of speech”….. but now; he is facing lawsuits for “hatred” and “inciting violence” and “discrimination”…

The thin line between what you CAN and CAN NOT say…

Are you allowed to compare the Koran with Mein Kampf…?? And putting a ban on the Koran…??

Especially when you are quoting the books and there are some “equal parts”…. is it wrong to mention that…??
And putting a ban on the Koran…??

When you sat that a certain kind of  immigrants are causing problems and about 20% of their youngsters are well known as “troublemakers”at the police; could you say “those immigrants have problems dealing with their youngsters because of their believes…?”

There are a couple more things he said…..

Is this freedom of speech..? Or is he inciting violence and hatred….?

As you know – the freedom of speech is a high law in my opinion….
And maybe you also read the Atheist article – so you can say I am not “participating in any kind of religion”….
The combination of those two; I do not think that Mr.Wilders should face a lawsuit…. the Koran could be called a controversial book (if you see it outside the box called “religion”)….. but the same you could say about the Bible… it also contains some lines which could be interpreted wrongly…
And putting certain immigrants into that discussion….. if he has the figures right… who am I to say he is wrong..??

Yes – he is close to the hatred etc – BUT; to me it seems more a discussion about religion….
In my opinion; everybody has a right to his own religion – but that religion is NEVER NEVER EVER bigger than any law !!
(through my eyes; religion is about a non-existing matter; so I can “dish” religion as bad as I want to….. which I won’t – out of respect to others…. but it is most certainly my right !!). And as an article on the Wall Street Journal is having it’s headline “Silencing Islam’s Critics – a Dutch Court import Saudi blasphemy norms to Europe“.

And nobody is allowed to tell me that their religion is bigger than my freedom of speech….

So; I say – Mr. Wilders should go freely – BUT I am NOT (just making thos one clear uh..??) agreeing with what he is saying !!

  1. It’s ridiculous that he is facing lawsuits. On the other hand, he calls for a ban of the Quaran and that’s equally ridiculous.

  2. True – he is demanding “freedom of speech”…. – well the Quaran is also an example…
(on the other hand; I also think it is weird we have a ban on “Mein Kampf”….)

  3. Yes, that ban should be lifted. Btw, in The Netherlands it’s not illegal to own an already existing copy of the book, but it’s illegal to reprint or sell it.

In September 2007 Dutch minister Ronald Plasterk wanted to lift the ban, but Parliament voted against it.
