Dutch Recession; glossy newspaper goes TV
Today the big news; Holland in Recession.
The Prime Minister said this today…. it is official…. we have BAD weather….
And then de Telegraaf is announcing their wanna-be tv channel. Weeks after their young child GeenStijl = a weblog owned by Telegraaf = did the same announcement….
In Holland we have the commercial tv channels – but also some public tv channels. Those public tv channels do need a certain amount of members.
Once they have enough member – they will get “airtimeâ€. And those tv channels will also get some money from our Government to make decent programs to broadcast….
(fastly explained our tv system)……
The combination of these two…??
Well; de Telegraaf thinks that the tv channels need the voice of the Dutch people…..
In recession we need a tv channel to spread our voice…..
Uh…??
Does it really sound like I need the voice of Telegraaf..?? Or GeenStijl…??
They are not my voice…!!
BUT; my frustration and fear……
Telegraaf and GeenStijl are bringing the news in “their certain wayâ€â€¦â€¦
Do they really need to get bigger via tv channels..??
Does no one else have the same fear of “a big newspaper doing the news on all levelsâ€â€¦??
Next step is maybe going to be; the President of the Telegraaf to be the new Prime Minister of Holland..??
My biggest fear..??
Mr. Berlusconi (look-a-like) to be the next leader of this country…..

Perhaps it’s possible, but I don’t think it’s very likely. The Italian media is notorious for its lack of diversity, the situation in The Netherlands is different. We’re still far from a Dutch Berlusconi.
