Dutch politician lost it completely

Wouter Bos
According to Wouter Bos, minister of Finance in The Netherlands, the Dutch can be blamed for the credit crisis. “We all want more and more. This behavior caused the banks to take more risks to sell their products”, the politician said.

Recently he bailed out troubled banks in The Netherlands for several billions, selling it to the Dutch as an “investment”. No word from the politician about the role these banks played in the credit crisis, just blame the people, the same people who are paying taxes to finance the bailout…

Wouter Bos is the political leader of the Dutch Labor party, the PvdA. This party is arguably the most unreliable party the Dutch have seen in years. The party wasn’t part of the government before the latest elections, so the party did everything to ensure a place in the government. It worked, and now they are on board in the government. Here how they did it:

Before the elections this party said The Netherlands would not buy any JSF fighter jets, the first thing after the elections with this party on board: The Netherlands is buying JSF fighter jets.

Before the elections this party said a new referendum must be organized to vote about the new, modified European constitution, the second thing after the elections with this party on board: The Netherlands is not going to organize a new referendum to vote.

Before the elections this party said the Dutch government must find out why it fell for the simplistic “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” arguments from the US that made The Netherlands support the invasion of Iraq, the third thing after the elections with this party on board: the Dutch government is not going to find out why it fell for simplistic US arguments.

Before the elections Wouter Bos said he would stay in Parliament and not take a position in the government, after the elections he left Parliament and became minister of Finance in the government…

  1. That’s a bit tendentious, isn’t it? I think there is plenty of truth in Bos’s statement that greed is one of the main causes of the financial crisis. Bos actually was chosen ‘Dutchman of the year’ this week, so he can’t be doing everything wrong…..

Don’t get me wrong here, but a bit more nuance is in place…… Apart from that, you could well argue that some other political parties have a habit of blowing with the wind as well…..

  2. It’s just plain wrong to blame the people for the crisis when the government depends on the very same people to cough up the money needed for the bailout of banks. Greed is certainly one of the main causes of the financial crisis, but it was mostly greed of banks, financial institutions and a small, priviliged circle of wealthy private persons. The greed of Joe the Plumber/Jan Modaal is vanishing small compared with that, but they have to pay up…

I don’t think we’ve seen other parties in recent years breaking their promises made before the elections on such a large scale, just because they are so horny to govern.
