Dutch Blogger fired; she was a bit to honest….

LivingInNewYorkWhat would you do in the following situation;

you are a foreign student in New York – working in a little bar to get some money……. The Minister of Defense of your neighbour counry is getting into the bar… totally drunk and is using a lot of “dirty” language…
You have a little conversation with him….. and you find out that he was suppose to be in New York because of some meetings. BUT he knew those meetings where cancelled…..

So – you as a blogger….. would you put that on your blog…??

H*ll – I WOULD !!!

But – then getting fired – because some “high placed people” did a complaint (by telephone) at the bar afterwards….. no fun….
Would I still write that article…??
Oh yes – and I would make sure that the same “high placed people” would get me my job back !

This all happened to a Dutch student…..

Even if the Minister of Defence (Pieter de Crem of Belgium) was bragging and maybe he DID still have a lot of meetings….. – making people call = because you are to drunk to really remember what you said…. pffffff…..
No good defense !!!

  1. She has a Belgium nationality….not if that makes any difference……

  2. Sorry FleBB – but you are not correct about that one;

    “Verder heeft De Crem natuurlijk wel een punt door vast te stellen dat ik de een Nederlandse nationaliteit draag, dat en het feit dat ik dan ook nog eens blog maakt mij natuurlijk tot een zeer gevaarlijke combinatie voor de samenleving. Dus vreest niet dierbaar Belgie, u bent veilig onder leiding van onze Minister van Defensie.”

  3. Belgium is a somewhat artificial state, hard to govern at the federal level. Things are done differently there, it’s not a surprise that “high placed people” do this…

    You probably think of banana republics in South and Central America where they overthrow governments, but in the 1970s Belgium was very close to a coup d’etat. Right wing elements in police and politics were conspiring to overthrow the government. They abandoned the plan at the last moment when it turned out the person they had in mind to become the new prime-minister (who didn’t know about the coup d’etat) refused.
